Serviam ut in omnibus glorificetur Deus!

I have been very blessed in my life. I have a wonderful wife and family, I am reasonably successful in business and above all, God in His infinite grace and forgiveness brought me back to the faith. There is much for which I could be “proud.” The industry in which I work seems to reward people with big egos. However, as pride is the foundation of most if not all sin, I need to avoid it more than anything. I also need to share my faith, this wonderful gift I have received. To whom much is given, much more is expected.
Lucifer is said to have pridefully uttered “I will not serve” or “Non Serviam.” So it seems that if that was the ultimate statement of pride, I should strive for the opposite. So this title helps me remember that and also helps guide what I do here. If it serves you by serving God, then great.
And since my main vocation is my family and I also have a business to run, there will be stretches of time when my “Serviam” calls me to be somewhere other than playing here. As St. Benedict reminds us, it’s all about balance.
Ora et labora. Or in this case – family et work et prayer et sometimes blog.
So I will do what I can here while trying to sanctify my personal and business labors and sacrifices each day following the wisdom of St. Benedict, St. Francis de Sales, St. Josemaria Escriva and others. I’ll likely skew content toward Catholic issues in the Kansas City area issues since that is where God has put me. I respectfully ask your indulgence. Meanwhile, please offer suggestions and guidance.
PS – “RJ Sciurus” is Latin for RJ Squirrel of Rocky & Bullwinkle fame. I assumed the name as a joke in Father Z’s chat room one day and it stuck. Hey, there are worse names and I’d much rather be called “RJ” than “Bull”.
